Health Benefits Of Vedic Meditation Are Well Documented

I have been meditating for more than 30 years in one way or another (Transcendental Meditation, or TM, for the last 28 years).

From my experience, both personally and in teaching Vedic Meditation for more than 25 years, I have seen first hand the benefits of Vedic Meditation in all areas of life.

The health benefits of Vedic Meditation are well documented so I will only cover a few of them here on this page.

There are two primary reasons a person learns Vedic Meditation or any form of meditation for that matter, and they are 1) spiritual 2) health.

I think we all have moments when we think about life, the meaning of life, the universe and where we fit in the “Grand Plan”.

But not all of us get the opportunity to do much more about those random thoughts. Life takes over and before we know it…

Spirituality can and does mean different things to different people. But essentially the aspect that inspires a lot of people to meditate is returning to one’s self.

Getting to know one’s self – get in touch – to simply ‘be’. Vedic Meditation is an excellent meditation technique to do just that, however, I will leave that for another page, another time.

Today I want to highlight the health benefits of Vedic Meditation.

The Health Benefits Of Vedic Meditation

As mentioned above, Health or more correctly illness and/or disease is a primary reason people learn to meditate. Some people look to learning meditation once they have fallen ill, others look to learn meditation with the hope of preventing illness. Prevention is better than any cure!

Sadly, for some, it is too late for the benefits of Vedic Meditation to be or any real help with the illness. Although that being said, Vedic Meditation is a very good technique for coping with stress.

And often dealing with the stress of a terminal illness can be harder than dealing with the illness itself.

On a brighter note, the health benefits of Vedic Meditation can be as many and varied as the people who learn it.

When people are healthier they don’t get sick as often – colds, flues, headaches, neck, and shoulder pains (stress-related).

And because they tend to be less anxious they experience less constipation and other digestive related issues.

When a person is less stressed and not as anxious they tend not to ‘Comfort eat’ – snacking between meals when they are not even hungry.

Therefore, weight normalises which might be why people begin to feel happy about themselves when they learn Vedic Meditation.

I taught a lady recently who said the reason she wanted to learn Vedic Meditation was because her friend had learned and lost weight simply by doing nothing twice a day.

The benefits of Vedic Meditation apply to all ages.

Do You Sometimes Wake Up In The Morning Still Feeling Tired?

If you have trouble sleeping, you’re not alone. Almost everyone occasionally suffers from short-term insomnia.

Sleep problems affect virtually every aspect of day-to-day living, including mood, mental alertness, work performance, and energy level.

The regular practice of Vedic Meditation significantly reduces the time taken for insomniacs to fall asleep.

The Vedic Meditation technique relieves deep-rooted stress from the nervous system on a direct physiological level. Consequently, it produces a wide range of beneficial effects without requiring attention to any one area.

The effect, a greater regularity in the sleeping cycle.

Do You Feel Extremely Worried Or Afraid Much Of The Time?

Most of us worry or get scared sometimes. But if you repeatedly feel panicky, you may have an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorders – which include panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias – are among the most common mental illnesses.

When do feelings of worry, fear, and stress cross the line from a normal part of everyday existence into an emotional mindset that governs your life?

For many people, this distinction is not immediately obvious.

Vedic Meditation is very effective in reducing the feeling of anxiety and like disorders.

Extensive research shows that Meditation reduces a variety of important risk factors for disease, including coronary heart disease and cancer.

These findings included reductions in:

  • High blood pressure

The Benefits Of Vedic Meditation In Education and Sports

As I mentioned above, the benefits of Vedic Meditation are as many and varied as the people who learn it.

The primary benefits of Vedic Meditation are usually associated with health and well-being, which can be seen above.

However, these benefits then transfer into other areas of one’s life. In this section, we look at two of those areas, academic excellence, and sporting performance.

Benefits Of Vedic Meditation In Education

Academic Excellence

Psychologists suggest that people use only a fraction of their mental potential and that many aspects of mental development typically stop by the age of 21.

Vedic Meditation gives the experience of the most subtle and powerful levels of awareness, providing increased access to the full potential of the mind.

As a result, intelligence develops, perception is sharper, and thinking is clearer and more creative, which naturally leads to fewer mistakes in decisions and actions.

Students who practice Vedic Meditation have been found to experience rapid growth in all aspects of their lives, including academic excellence.

Even Teachers Who Practice Vedic Meditation Grow In Creativity And Vitality

Even teachers who practice Vedic Meditation grow in creativity and vitality, and when Vedic Meditation is integrated into the academic day of a school or university, the whole environment becomes more dynamic and harmonious.

  • Vedic Meditation develops broader comprehension and an improved ability to focus.
  • The Vedic Meditation technique increases general intelligence, enabling the individual to respond to new situations with greater adaptability, creativity, and comprehension.

Building Higher Levels of Sporting Performance

Sportspeople challenge the limits of human achievement. Performing in a pressure-filled world of split-second action, they must respond at peak levels physically, mentally, and psychologically.

The demands for victory are great. A winning athlete must be in top physical condition; the mind needs to be strong and clear; and they should have a strong, positive, confident attitude that stays with them even in tense situations. A training technique is now available that works to improve the athlete in all areas at once.

Vedic Meditation naturally dissolves away the tension and fatigue that impairs reaction times, concentration, courage, and the continued successful performance of an athlete.

Donna’s experience

“I wanted to let you know that I am continuing with my meditation on a regular basis and have found that it has enabled me to train for a marathon which is on at the beginning of November.

I would never have contemplated it without the help of meditation (I’m sure) and just wanted to say thank you. I feel a whole different person since a year ago.”
Donna McIntosh

The regular practice of Vedic Meditation revitalizes the body and mind, producing greater energy, mental strength, and self-sufficiency in action.

Physical: When the body is free of stress and strain, it naturally performs more dynamically. The regular practice of the Vedic Meditation technique brings about:

  • Faster running speed
  • Faster reaction time
  • Increased power
  • Improved Sleep patterns
  • Improved mind/body coordination
  • Decreased tiredness and fatigue
  • Improved skill levels
  • Increased vital capacity (ability to inhale more oxygen)
  • Increased hemoglobin levels (ability to absorb more oxygen)
  • Improved cardiovascular efficiency (more responsiveness to training
  • Increased endurance
  • Increased agility
  • Faster more complete recovery from training, competition, and injuries
  • Decreased blood lactate levels (lactate brings fatigue)

Mental: When the mind is clear and strong, it can direct the body’s action quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Mental alertness is the basis of successful completion.

When the mind and body are healthy, strong, and well-integrated they naturally strengthen a person’s attitude and character.

Full Potential: These integrated benefits for mind and body come simply and naturally. The Vedic Meditation technique enlivens the body with deeper rest than sleep.

The regular practice of Vedic Meditation allows the mind to become more clear and orderly. The technique is easy and pleasant to do and gives the athlete a rapid means to recover from strenuous practice and completion.

Because the benefits from the regular practice of Vedic Meditation accumulate with time, levels of energy, and mental alertness increase over the course of the season.

Instead of being worn down by the length and pressure of the season, the athlete has a technique to dissolve stress and fatigue and move progressively toward the use of their full potential.
